[8:11]  1 sn The phrase the City of David refers here to the fortress of Zion in Jerusalem, not to Bethlehem. See 2 Sam 5:7.

[11:4]  2 tn Heb “for his thing is from me.”

[11:4]  3 tn Heb “and they heard the words of the Lord and returned from going against Jeroboam.”

[12:5]  3 tn Heb “also I have rejected you into the hand of Shishak.”

[20:15]  4 tn Heb “all Judah.” The words “you people of” are supplied in the translation for clarity. The Hebrew text uses the name “Judah” by metonymy for the people of Judah. Unlike the previous instance in v. 13 where infants, wives, and children are mentioned separately, this reference appears to include them all.

[20:15]  5 tn Or perhaps “don’t get discouraged.”

[21:7]  5 tn Heb “house.”

[21:7]  6 tn Or “covenant.”

[21:7]  7 tn Heb “which he made to David, just as he had promised to give him and his sons a lamp all the days.” Here “lamp” is metaphorical, symbolizing the Davidic dynasty.

[21:12]  6 tn Heb “he”; the referent (Jehoram) has been specified in the translation for clarity and for stylistic reasons.

[21:12]  7 tn Heb “Because you…” In the Hebrew text this lengthy sentence is completed in vv. 14-15. Because of its length and complexity (and the tendency of contemporary English to use shorter sentences), the translation has divided it up into several English sentences.

[21:12]  8 tn Heb “walked in the ways.”

[21:12]  9 tn Heb “in the ways of.”

[23:14]  7 tn Heb “ranks.”

[23:14]  8 tn Heb “for the priest had said, ‘Do not put her to death in the house of the Lord.’”

[24:20]  8 tn Heb “clothed.”

[33:7]  9 tn Heb “In this house and in Jerusalem, which I chose from all the tribes of Israel, I will place my name permanently” (or perhaps “forever”).

[35:21]  10 tn Heb “he”; the referent (Neco) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[35:21]  11 tn Heb “What to me and to you, king of Judah?”

[35:21]  12 tn Heb “Not against you, you, today, but against the house of my battle.”

[35:21]  13 tn Heb “Stop yourself from [opposing] God who is with me and let him not destroy you.”
