2 Corinthians 1:17

Context
1:17 Therefore when I was planning to do this, I did not do so without thinking about what I was doing, did I? 1  Or do I make my plans 2  according to mere human standards 3  so that I would be saying 4  both “Yes, yes” and “No, no” at the same time?

2 Corinthians 9:2

Context
9:2 because I know your eagerness to help. 5  I keep boasting to the Macedonians about this eagerness of yours, 6  that Achaia has been ready to give 7  since last year, and your zeal to participate 8  has stirred up most of them. 9

2 Corinthians 11:23

Context
11:23 Are they servants of Christ? (I am talking like I am out of my mind!) I am even more so: with much greater labors, with far more imprisonments, with more severe beatings, facing death many times.

[1:17]  1 tn The Greek construction anticipates a negative answer. This is indicated in the translation by the ‘tag’ question “did I?” at the end of the sentence.

[1:17]  2 tn Grk “the things that I plan, do I plan (them).”

[1:17]  3 tn Grk “according to the flesh.”

[1:17]  4 tn Grk “so that with me there should be.”

[9:2]  5 tn The words “to help” are not in the Greek text but are implied.

[9:2]  6 tn Grk “concerning which I keep boasting to the Macedonians about you.” A new sentence was started here and the translation was simplified by removing the relative clause and repeating the antecedent “this eagerness of yours.”

[9:2]  7 tn The words “to give” are not in the Greek text, but are implied.

[9:2]  8 tn The words “to participate” are not in the Greek text but are implied.

[9:2]  9 sn Most of them is a reference to the Macedonians (cf. v. 4).
