2 Corinthians 12:20

Context
12:20 For I am afraid that somehow when I come I will not find you what I wish, and you will find me 1  not what you wish. I am afraid that 2  somehow there may be quarreling, jealousy, intense anger, selfish ambition, 3  slander, gossip, arrogance, and disorder.

2 Corinthians 8:10-11

Context
8:10 So here is my opinion on this matter: It is to your advantage, since you 4  made a good start last year both in your giving and your desire to give, 8:11 to finish what you started, 5  so that just as you wanted to do it eagerly, 6  you can also complete it 7  according to your means. 8

2 Corinthians 11:12

Context
11:12 And what I am doing I will continue to do, so that I may eliminate any opportunity for those who want a chance to be regarded as our equals 9  in the things they boast about.

2 Corinthians 1:8

Context
1:8 For we do not want you to be unaware, brothers and sisters, 10  regarding the affliction that happened to us in the province of Asia, 11  that we were burdened excessively, beyond our strength, so that we despaired even of living.

2 Corinthians 5:4

Context
5:4 For we groan while we are in this tent, 12  since we are weighed down, 13  because we do not want to be unclothed, but clothed, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life.

2 Corinthians 12:6

Context
12:6 For even if I wish to boast, I will not be a fool, for I would be telling 14  the truth, but I refrain from this so that no one may regard 15  me beyond what he sees in me or what he hears from me,

[12:20]  1 tn Grk “and I will be found by you.” The passive construction has been converted to an active one in the translation.

[12:20]  2 tn The words “I am afraid that” are not repeated in the Greek text, but are needed for clarity.

[12:20]  3 tn Or “intense anger, hostility.”

[8:10]  4 tn Grk “who.”

[8:11]  7 tn Grk “and now also complete the doing.”

[8:11]  8 tn Grk “just as the eagerness to want [it].”

[8:11]  9 tn Grk “so also it might be completed.” The passive construction was converted to an active one in the translation in keeping with contemporary English style.

[8:11]  10 tn Grk “completed from what you have.”

[11:12]  10 tn Grk “an opportunity, so that they may be found just like us.”

[1:8]  13 tn Grk “brothers,” but the Greek word may be used for “brothers and sisters” or “fellow Christians” as here (cf. BDAG 18 s.v. ἀδελφός 1., where considerable nonbiblical evidence for the plural ἀδελφοί [adelfoi] meaning “brothers and sisters” is cited).

[1:8]  14 tn Grk “Asia”; in the NT this always refers to the Roman province of Asia, made up of about one-third of the west and southwest end of modern Asia Minor. Asia lay to the west of the region of Phrygia and Galatia. The words “the province of” are supplied to indicate to the modern reader that this does not refer to the continent of Asia.

[5:4]  16 sn See the note in 5:1 on the phrase the tent we live in.

[5:4]  17 tn Or “we are burdened.”

[12:6]  19 tn Or “speaking.”

[12:6]  20 tn Or “may think of.”
