23:36 Jehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned for eleven years in Jerusalem. ²³  His mother was Zebidah the daughter of Pedaiah, from Rumah.

As in chapter one, this account makes it clear that disrespect for the Lord’s designated spokesmen can be deadly, for it is ultimately rejection of the Lord’s authority.

[3:3]  ² tc The Hebrew text has the singular, “it.” Some ancient witnesses read the plural, which seems preferable since the antecedent (“sins”) is plural. Another option is to emend the plural “sins” to a singular. One ancient Greek witness has the singular “sin.”
