2:14 He took the cloak that had fallen off Elijah, 1  hit the water with it, and said, “Where is the Lord, the God of Elijah?” When he hit the water, it divided and Elisha crossed over.

2 Kings 4:10

4:10 Let’s make a small private upper room 2  and furnish it with 3  a bed, table, chair, and lamp. When he visits us, he can stay there.”

2 Kings 9:12

9:12 But they said, “You’re lying! Tell us what he said.” So he told them what he had said. He also related how he had said, 4  “This is what the Lord says, ‘I have designated you as king over Israel.’”

[2:14]  1 tn Heb “Elijah’s cloak, which had fallen off him.” The wording is changed slightly in the translation for the sake of variety of expression (see v. 13).

[4:10]  2 tn Heb “a small upper room of a wall”; according to HALOT 832 s.v. עֲלִיָּה, this refers to “a fully walled upper room.”

[4:10]  3 tn Heb “and let’s put there for him.”

[9:12]  3 tn Heb “So he said, ‘Like this and like this he said to me, saying.’” The words “like this and like this” are probably not a direct quote of Jehu’s words to his colleagues. Rather this is the narrator’s way of avoiding repetition and indicating that Jehu repeated, or at least summarized, what the prophet had said to him.
