[3:12]  1 tn Heb “the word of the Lord is with him.”

[8:16]  2 tc The Hebrew text reads, “and in the fifth year of Joram son of Ahab king of Israel, and [or, ‘while’?] Jehoshaphat [was?] king of Judah, Jehoram son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah became king.” The first reference to “Jehoshaphat king of Judah” is probably due to a scribe accidentally copying the phrase from the later in the verse. If the Hebrew text is retained, the verse probably refers to the beginning of a coregency between Jehoshaphat and Jehoram.

[9:2]  3 tn Heb “and go and set him apart from his brothers and bring him into an inner room in an inner room.”

[1:17]  4 tn Heb “according to the word of the Lord which he spoke through Elijah.”

[1:17]  5 tn Heb “Jehoram replaced him as king…because he had no son.” Some ancient textual witnesses add “his brother,” which was likely added on the basis of the statement later in the verse that Ahaziah had no son.

[3:7]  5 tn Heb “went and sent.”

[3:7]  6 tn Heb “he”; the referent (Jehoshaphat) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[3:7]  7 tn Heb “I will go up – like me, like you; like my people, like your people; like my horses; like your horses.”

[3:11]  6 tn Heb “that we might inquire of the Lord through him?”

[3:11]  7 tn Heb “who poured water on the hands of Elijah.” This refers to one of the typical tasks of a servant.

[3:14]  7 tn Traditionally “the Lord of hosts.”

[3:14]  8 tn Heb “before whom I stand.”

[3:14]  9 tn Heb “if I did not lift up the face of Jehoshaphat the king of Judah.”

[3:14]  10 tn Heb “I would not look at you or see you.”

[9:14]  8 tn Heb “he and all Israel.”

[12:18]  9 tn The object (“it all”) is supplied in the translation for clarification.

[12:18]  10 tn Heb “went up.”
