2 Peter 1:17

1:17 For he received honor and glory from God the Father, when that ¹  voice was conveyed to him by the Majestic Glory: “This is my dear Son, in whom I am delighted.” ² 

2 Peter 2:20

2:20 For if after they have escaped the filthy things ³  of the world through the rich knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, ⁴  they ⁵  again get entangled in them and succumb to them, ⁶  their last state has become worse for them than their first.

[1:17]  ¹ tn Grk “such a.” The pronoun τοιᾶσδε (toiasde) most likely refers to what follows, connoting something of the uniqueness of the proclamation.

[1:17]  ² tn The verb εὐδόκησα (eudokhsa) in collocation with εἰς ὅν (ei" Jon) could either mean “in whom I am well-pleased, delighted” (in which case the preposition functions like ἐν [en]), or “on whom I have set my favor.”

[2:20]  ³ tn Grk “defilements”; “contaminations”; “pollutions.”

[2:20]  ⁴ sn Through the rich knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The implication is not that these people necessarily knew the Lord (in the sense of being saved), but that they were in the circle of those who had embraced Christ as Lord and Savior.
