Context14:30 So he said to his servants, “Look, Joab has a portion of field adjacent to mine and he has some barley there. Go and set it on fire.” 1 So Absalom’s servants set Joab’s 2 portion of the field on fire.

Context24:22 Araunah told David, “My lord the king may take whatever he wishes 3 and offer it. Look! Here are oxen for burnt offerings, and threshing sledges 4 and harnesses 5 for wood.


[14:30] 1 tc The LXX adds here the following words: “And the servants of Absalom burned them up. And the servants of Joab came to him, rending their garments. They said….”
[14:30] 2 tn The word “Joab’s” is not in the Hebrew text, but has been supplied in the translation for stylistic reasons.
[24:22] 3 tn Heb “what is good in his eyes.”
[24:22] 4 sn Threshing sledges were heavy boards used in ancient times for loosening grain from husks. On the bottom sides of these boards sharp stones were embedded, and the boards were then dragged across the grain on a threshing floor by an ox or donkey.
