10:16 Then Hadadezer sent for Arameans from 2  beyond the Euphrates River, 3  and they came to Helam. Shobach, the general in command of Hadadezer’s army, led them. 4

[2:8]  1 sn The name Ish-bosheth means in Hebrew “man of shame.” It presupposes an earlier form such as Ish-baal (“man of the Lord”), with the word “baal” being used of Israel’s God. But because the Canaanite storm god was named “Baal,” that part of the name was later replaced with the word “shame.”

[10:16]  2 tn Heb “and Hadadezer sent and brought out Aram which is.”

[10:16]  3 tn Heb “from beyond the River.” The name “Euphrates” has been supplied in the translation for clarity.

[10:16]  4 tn Heb “was before them.”
