2 Timothy 1:11

1:11 For this gospel ¹  I was appointed a preacher and apostle and teacher. ² 

2 Timothy 4:3

4:3 For there will be a time when people ³  will not tolerate sound teaching. Instead, following their own desires, ⁴  they will accumulate teachers for themselves, because they have an insatiable curiosity to hear new things. ⁵

[1:11]  ² tc Most mss (א² C D F G Ψ 1739 1881 Ï latt sy co) have ἐθνῶν (eqnwn, “of the Gentiles”) after “teacher.” The shorter reading has poorer external credentials (א* A I 1175 pc), but is preferred because ἐθνῶν probably represents a gloss added by copyists familiar with 1 Tim 2:7. There is no easy explanation for the omission of the word if it were original here.

[4:3]  ³ tn Grk “they”; the referent (the people in that future time) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[4:3]  ⁴ tn Grk “in accord with.”

[4:3]  ⁵ tn Grk “having an itching in regard to hearing,” “having itching ears.”
