14:4 But the population ¹  of the city was divided; some ²  sided with the Jews, and some with the apostles.

Acts 27:23

27:23 For last night an angel of the God to whom I belong ³  and whom I serve ⁴  came to me ⁵ 

[14:4]  ¹ tn BDAG 825 s.v. πλῆθος 2.b.γ has this translation for πλῆθος (plhqo").

[14:4]  ² tn These clauses are a good example of the contrastive μὲν…δέ (men…de) construction: Some “on the one hand” sided with the Jews, but some “on the other hand” sided with the apostles.

[27:23]  ³ tn Grk “of whom I am.” The relative clause with its possessive was translated following L&N 15.86 s.v. παρίσταμαι.

[27:23]  ⁴ tn Or “worship.”

[27:23]  ⁵ tn Or “stood by me.” BDAG 778 s.v. παρίστημι/παριστάνω 2.a.α states, “approach, come τινί (to) someone…Ac 9:39; 27:23.”
