Acts 15:39

15:39 They had ¹  a sharp disagreement, ²  so that they parted company. Barnabas took along ³  Mark and sailed away to Cyprus, ⁴

21:6 we said farewell ⁵  to one another. ⁶  Then ⁷  we went aboard the ship, and they returned to their own homes. ⁸ 

Acts 26:31

26:31 and as they were leaving they said to one another, ⁹  “This man is not doing anything deserving ¹⁰  death or imprisonment.”

[15:39]  ¹ tn Grk “There happened a sharp disagreement.” The introductory phrase ἐγένετο (egeneto, “it happened that”), common in Luke (69 times) and Acts (54 times), is redundant in contemporary English and has not been translated.

[15:39]  ² tn BDAG 780 s.v. παροξυσμός 2 has “sharp disagreement” here; L&N 33.451 has “sharp argument, sharp difference of opinion.”

[15:39]  ³ tn Grk “taking along Mark sailed.” The participle παραλαβόντα (paralabonta) has been translated as a finite verb due to requirements of contemporary English style.

[15:39]  ⁴ sn Cyprus is a large island in the Mediterranean off the south coast of Asia Minor.

[21:6]  ⁵ tn BDAG 98 s.v. ἀπασπάζομαι has “take leave of, say farewell to τινά someone…ἀπησπασάμεθα ἀλλήλους we said farewell to one another Ac 21:6.”

[21:6]  ⁶ sn These words are part of v. 5 in the standard critical Greek text.

[21:6]  ⁷ tn Grk “and.” Because of the length and complexity of the Greek sentence, a new sentence was begun in the translation, and καί (kai) has been translated as “then” to indicate the logical sequence.

[21:6]  ⁸ tn Grk “to their own”; the word “homes” is implied.

[26:31]  ⁹ tn Grk “they spoke to one another saying.” The participle λέγοντες (legontes) is redundant in English and has not been translated.

[26:31]  ¹⁰ tn BDAG 93 s.v. ἄξιος 1.b has “θανάτου ἢ δεσμῶν ἄ. nothing deserving death or imprisonment 23:29; 26:31.”
