Acts 20:20

20:20 You know that I did not hold back from proclaiming ¹  to you anything that would be helpful, ²  and from teaching you publicly ³  and from house to house,

11:26 and when he found him, he brought him to Antioch. ⁴  So ⁵  for a whole year Barnabas and Saul ⁶  met with the church and taught a significant number of people. ⁷  Now it was in Antioch ⁸  that the disciples were first called Christians. ⁹

[20:20]  ² tn Or “profitable.” BDAG 960 s.v. συμφέρω 2.b.α has “τὰ συμφέροντα what advances your best interests or what is good for you Ac 20:20,” but the broader meaning (s.v. 2, “to be advantageous, help, confer a benefit, be profitable/useful”) is equally possible in this context.

[11:26]  ⁴ sn Antioch was a city in Syria (not Antioch in Pisidia). See the note in 11:19.

[11:26]  ⁵ tn Grk “So it happened that” The introductory phrase ἐγένετο (egeneto, “it happened that”), common in Luke (69 times) and Acts (54 times), is redundant in contemporary English and has not been translated.

[11:26]  ⁶ tn Grk “year they”; the referents (Barnabas and Saul) have been specified in the translation for clarity.
