Acts 22:9

22:9 Those who were with me saw the light, but did not understand ¹  the voice of the one who was speaking to me.

Acts 1:11

1:11 and said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand here ²  looking up into the sky? This same Jesus who has been taken up from you into heaven ³  will come back in the same way you saw him go into heaven.”

Acts 21:27

21:27 When the seven days were almost over, ⁴  the Jews from the province of Asia ⁵  who had seen him in the temple area ⁶  stirred up the whole crowd ⁷  and seized ⁸  him,

[22:9]  ¹ tn Grk “did not hear” (but see Acts 9:7). BDAG 38 s.v. ἀκούω 7 has “W. acc. τὸν νόμον understand the law Gal 4:21; perh. Ac 22:9; 26:14…belong here.” If the word has this sense here, then a metonymy is present, since the lack of effect is put for a failure to appreciate what was heard.

[1:11]  ² tn The word “here” is not in the Greek text, but is implied. Direct objects were frequently omitted in Greek when clear from the context, but must be supplied for the modern English reader.

[1:11]  ³ tc Codex Bezae (D) and several other witnesses lack the words εἰς τὸν οὐρανόν (ei" ton ouranon, “into heaven”) here, most likely by way of accidental deletion. In any event, it is hardly correct to suppose that the Western text has intentionally suppressed references to the ascension of Christ here, for the phrase is solidly attested in the final clause of the verse.

[21:27]  ³ tn BDAG 975 s.v. συντελέω 4 has “to come to an end of a duration, come to an end, be over…Ac 21:27.”

[21:27]  ⁴ tn Grk “Asia”; in the NT this always refers to the Roman province of Asia, made up of about one-third of the west and southwest end of modern Asia Minor. Asia lay to the west of the region of Phrygia and Galatia. The words “the province of” are supplied to indicate to the modern reader that this does not refer to the continent of Asia.

[21:27]  ⁵ tn Grk “in the temple.” See the note on the word “temple” in v. 28.

[21:27]  ⁶ tn Or “threw the whole crowd into consternation.” L&N 25.221 has “συνέχεον πάντα τὸν ὄχλον ‘they threw the whole crowd into consternation’ Ac 21:27. It is also possible to render the expression in Ac 21:27 as ‘they stirred up the whole crowd.’”

[21:27]  ⁷ tn Grk “and laid hands on.”
