Acts 8:21-22

Joshua 7:25-26

[8:21]  1 tn The translation “share or part” is given by L&N 63.13.

[8:21]  2 tn Since the semantic range for λόγος (logos) is so broad, a number of different translations could be given for the prepositional phrase here. Something along the lines of “in this thing” would work well, but is too colloquial for the present translation.

[8:22]  3 tn Or “and implore the Lord.”

[8:22]  4 tn Grk “that if possible the intent of your heart may be forgiven you.” The passive construction is somewhat awkward in contemporary English and has thus been converted to an active construction in the translation.

[7:25]  5 tn Or “trouble.” The word is “achor” in Hebrew (also in the following clause).

[7:25]  6 tc Heb “and they burned them with fire and they stoned them with stones.” These words are somewhat parenthetical in nature and are omitted in the LXX; they may represent a later scribal addition.

[7:26]  7 tc Heb “to this day.” The phrase “to this day” is omitted in the LXX and may represent a later scribal addition.

[15:35]  8 tn Infinitives absolute are used in this verse in the place of finite verbs. They lend a greater vividness to the description, stressing the basic meaning of the words.

[15:35]  9 tn At the start of the speech Eliphaz said Job’s belly was filled with the wind; now it is there that he prepares deception. This inclusio frames the speech.

[7:14]  10 tn Heb “and he conceives harm and gives birth to a lie.”

[59:4]  11 tn Heb “no one pleads with justice.”

[59:4]  12 tn Heb “nothing”; NAB “emptiness.”
