• Yerusalem, O Kota Daud [KJ.134]

  1. Yerusalem, o kota Daud, betapa kau berubah! Mengapakah tak lagi kau menjunjung citra sorga? Majusi datang padamu mencari Putra Damai; Engkau gelisah terkejut, tak sadar Ia sampai.	Mat 2:1-3

  Hark! a thrilling voice is sounding; “Christ is nigh,” it seems to say, “Cast away the works of darkness, O ye children of the day.” Wakened by the solemn warning Let the earthbound soul arise; Christ, her Sun, all ill dispelling, Shines upon the morning skies. Lo, the Lamb, so long expected, Comes with pardon down from Heav’n; Let us haste, with tears of sorrow, One and all to be forgiven. That when next He comes in glory, And the world is wrapped in fear, With His mercy He may shield us, And with words of love draw near.   “Repent, the kingdom draweth nigh,” The herald of the Lord doth cry. Ye sinners lost through Adam’s fall, Will ye not hearken to the call? Repent! The gracious call believe, Haste His forgiveness to receive. The Prince of Life, incarnate Word, Life and salvation can afford. Divine Redeemer, glorious King! Repentant hearts to Thee we bring. Thy holy blood for us was spilt, Cleanse us from all the stains of guilt. Drawn by Thy Spirit, through Thy Word, Thine invitation have we heard. In answer to Thy sweet request, We come to Thee, O Christ, for rest. Thy pardon, full, complete, and free, Removes sin’s awful penalty. Our Father’s love is now restored; Thou hast redeemed us, dearest Lord. Let us Thy Name forever bless, On earth Thy Gospel truth confess, Till saved by grace, through faith in Thee, The gates of paradise we see.

  Eternal Spirit! we confess And sing the wonders of Thy grace Thy power conveys our blessings down From God the Father and the Son. Enlightened by Thine heav’nly ray, Our shades and darkness turn to day; Thine inward teachings make us know Our danger and our refuge too.   This child we dedicate to Thee, O God of grace and purity! Shield it from sin and threatening wrong, And let Thy love its life prolong. O may Thy Spirit gently draw Its willing soul to keep Thy law; May virtue, piety, and truth, Dawn even with its dawning youth!   To Jordan came our Lord the Christ, To do God’s pleasure willing, And there was by Saint John baptized, All righteousness fulfilling; There did He consecrate a bath To wash away transgression, And quench the bitterness of death By His own blood and passion; He would a new life give us. So hear ye all, and well perceive What God doth call baptism, And what a Christian should believe Who error shuns and schism: That we should water use, the Lord Declareth it His pleasure; Not simple water, but the Word And Spirit without measure; He is the true Baptizer. To show us this, He hath His Word With signs and symbols given; On Jordan’s banks was plainly heard The Father’s voice from Heaven: “This is My well-beloved Son, In whom My soul delighteth; Hear Him.” Yea, hear Him every one Whom He Himself inviteth, Hear and obey His teaching. In tender manhood Jesus straight To holy Jordan wendeth; The Holy Ghost from Heaven’s gate In dovelike shape descendeth; That thus the truth be not denied, Nor should our faith e’er waver, That the Three Persons all preside, At baptism’s holy laver, And dwell with the believer. Thus Jesus His disciples sent: Go teach ye every nation, That lost in sin they must repent; And flee from condemnation: He that believes and is baptized, Obtains a mighty blessing; A new-born man, no more he dies, Eternal life possessing, A joyful heir of Heaven. Who in this mercy hath not faith, Nor aught therein discerneth, Is yet in sin, condemned to death, And fire that ever burneth; His holiness avails him not, Nor aught which he is doing; His inborn sin brings all to naught, And maketh sure his ruin; Himself he cannot succor. The eye of sense alone is dim, And nothing sees but water; Faith sees Christ Jesus, and in Him The Lamb ordained for slaughter; She sees the cleansing fountain red With the dear blood of Jesus, Which from the sins inherited From fallen Adam frees us, And from our own misdoings.

  Because I knew not when my life was good, And when there was a light upon my path, But turned my soul perversely to the dark, O Lord, I do repent. Because I held upon my selfish road, And left my brother wounded by the way, And called ambition duty, and pressed on, O Lord, I do repent. Because I spent the strength Thou gavest me In struggle which Thou never didst ordain, And have imperfect life to offer Thee, O Lord, I do repent. Because I was impatient, would not wait, And thrust my willful hand across Thy threads, And marred the pattern drawn out for my life, O Lord, I do repent.

  For all Thy saints, a noble throng, Who fell by fire and sword, Who soon were called, or waited long, We praise Thy Name, O Lord! For him who left his father’s side, Nor lingered by the shore, When, softer than the weltering tide, Thy summons glided o’er. Who stood beside the maiden dead, Who climbed the mount with Thee, And saw the glory round Thy head, One of Thy chosen three. Who knelt beneath the olive shade, Who drank Thy cup of pain, And passed from Herod’s flashing blade To see Thy face again. Lord, give us grace, and give us love, Like him to leave behind Earth’s cares and joys, and look above With true and earnest mind. So shall we learn to drink Thy cup, So meek and firm be found, When Thou shalt come to take us up Where Thine elect are crowned.
