Daniel 1:12-13

1:12 “Please test your servants for ten days by providing us with some vegetables to eat and water to drink. 1:13 Then compare our appearance ¹  with that of ²  the young men who are eating the royal delicacies; ³  deal with us ⁴  in light of what you see.”

Daniel 9:6

9:6 We have not paid attention to your servants the prophets, who spoke by your authority ⁵  to our kings, our leaders, and our ancestors, ⁶  and to all the inhabitants ⁷  of the land as well.

[1:13]  ² tn Heb “the appearance of.”

[1:13]  ³ tn Heb “delicacies of the king.” So also in v. 15.

[1:13]  ⁴ tn Heb “your servants.”

[9:6]  ¹ tn Heb “in your name.” Another option is to translate, “as your representatives.”

[9:6]  ² tn Heb “our fathers” (also in vv. 8, 16). The Hebrew term translated “father” can refer to more distant relationships such as grandfathers or ancestors.

[9:6]  ³ tn Heb “people.”
