Daniel 10:21

10:21 However, I will first tell you what is written in a dependable book. ¹  (There is no one who strengthens me against these princes, ²  except Michael your ³  prince.

Daniel 11:7

11:7 “There will arise in his ⁴  place one from her family line ⁵  who will come against their army and will enter the stronghold of the king of the north and will move against them successfully. ⁶ 

Daniel 11:21

11:21 “Then there will arise in his place a despicable person ⁷  to whom the royal honor has not been rightfully conferred. He will come on the scene in a time of prosperity and will seize the kingdom through deceit.

[10:21]  ¹ tn Heb “a book of truth.” Several English versions treat this as a title of some sort (cf. NIV, NCV, TEV, CEV, NLT), although the NAB’s rendering “the truthful book” regards “truth” as an attributive adjective, as does the present translation.

[10:21]  ² tn The word “princes” is supplied for clarity.

[10:21]  ³ tn The pronoun is plural in Hebrew, suggesting that Michael is the angelic prince of Daniel and his people.

[11:7]  ⁴ sn The reference is to the king of Egypt.

[11:7]  ⁵ tn Heb “the stock of her roots.”

[11:7]  ⁶ tn Heb “will deal with them and prevail.”

[11:21]  ⁷ sn This despicable person to whom the royal honor has not been rightfully conferred is Antiochus IV Epiphanes (ca. 175-164 B.C.).
