[2:25]  1 sn Arioch’s claim is self-serving and exaggerated. It is Daniel who came to him, and not the other way around. By claiming to have found one capable of solving the king’s dilemma, Arioch probably hoped to ingratiate himself to the king.

[6:13]  2 tn Aram “from the sons of the captivity [of].”

[6:13]  3 tn Aram “prays his prayer.”

[6:19]  7 sn At this point the language of the book reverts from Aramaic (4:8–6:18) back to Hebrew. Aramaic will again be used in Ezra 7:12-26.

[6:19]  8 tn Heb “the sons of the exile.” So also in v. 20.

[6:20]  9 tn Heb “as one.” The expression is best understood as referring to the unity shown by the religious leaders in preparing themselves for the observance of Passover. On the meaning of the Hebrew phrase see DCH 1:182 s.v. אֶחָד 3b. See also HALOT 30 s.v. אֶחָד 5.

[6:20]  10 tn Heb “brothers.”

[10:7]  11 tn Heb “voice.”

[10:16]  14 tc The translation reads the Hiphil singular וַיַּבְדֵּל לוֹ (vayyavdel lo, “separated for himself”) rather than the Niphal plural וַיִּבָּדְלוּ (vayyibbadÿlu, “were separated”) of the MT.

[10:16]  15 tn Heb “the heads of the fathers, to the house of their fathers, and all of them by name.”
