Daniel 2:9

Context
2:9 If you don’t inform me of the dream, there is only one thing that is going to happen to you. 1  For you have agreed among yourselves to report to me something false and deceitful 2  until such time as things might change. So tell me the dream, and I will have confidence 3  that you can disclose its interpretation.”

Daniel 2:28

Context
2:28 However, there is a God in heaven who reveals mysteries, 4  and he has made known to King Nebuchadnezzar what will happen in the times to come. 5  The dream and the visions you had while lying on your bed 6  are as follows.

Daniel 2:44

Context
2:44 In the days of those kings the God of heaven will raise up an everlasting kingdom that will not be destroyed and a kingdom that will not be left to another people. It will break in pieces and bring about the demise of all these kingdoms. But it will stand forever.

Daniel 2:47

Context
2:47 The king replied to Daniel, “Certainly your God is a God of gods and Lord of kings and revealer of mysteries, for you were able to reveal this mystery!”

Daniel 6:4

Context
6:4 Consequently the supervisors and satraps were trying to find 7  some pretext against Daniel in connection with administrative matters. 8  But they were unable to find any such damaging evidence, 9  because he was trustworthy and guilty of no negligence or corruption. 10

Daniel 6:16

Context
6:16 So the king gave the order, 11  and Daniel was brought and thrown into a den 12  of lions. The king consoled 13  Daniel by saying, “Your God whom you continually serve will rescue you!”

Daniel 6:10

Context

6:10 When Daniel realized 14  that a written decree had been issued, he entered his home, where the windows 15  in his upper room opened toward Jerusalem. 16  Three 17  times daily he was 18  kneeling 19  and offering prayers and thanks to his God just as he had been accustomed to do previously.

Daniel 6:26

Context
6:26 I have issued an edict that throughout all the dominion of my kingdom people are to revere and fear the God of Daniel.

“For he is the living God;

he endures forever.

His kingdom will not be destroyed;

his authority is forever. 20

Daniel 7:7

Context

7:7 “After these things, as I was watching in the night visions 21  a fourth beast appeared – one dreadful, terrible, and very strong. 22  It had two large rows 23  of iron teeth. It devoured and crushed, and anything that was left it trampled with its feet. It was different from all the beasts that came before it, and it had ten horns.

Daniel 3:15

Context
3:15 Now if you are ready, when you hear the sound of the horn, flute, zither, trigon, harp, pipes, and all kinds of music, you must bow down and pay homage to the statue that I had made. If you don’t pay homage to it, you will immediately be thrown into the midst of the furnace of blazing fire. Now, who is that god who can rescue you from my power?” 24

[2:9]  1 tn Aram “one is your law,” i.e., only one thing is applicable to you.

[2:9]  2 tn Aram “a lying and corrupt word.”

[2:9]  3 tn Aram “I will know.”

[2:28]  4 tn Aram “a revealer of mysteries.” The phrase serves as a quasi-title for God in Daniel.

[2:28]  5 tn Aram “in the latter days.”

[2:28]  6 tn Aram “your dream and the visions of your head upon your bed.”

[6:4]  7 tn Aram “looking to find.”

[6:4]  8 tn Aram “from the side of the kingdom.”

[6:4]  9 tn Aram “pretext and corruption.”

[6:4]  10 tn Aram “no negligence or corruption was found in him.” The Greek version of Theodotion lacks the phrase “and no negligence or corruption was found in him.”

[6:16]  10 tn Aram “said.” So also in vv. 24, 25.

[6:16]  11 sn The den was perhaps a pit below ground level which could be safely observed from above.

[6:16]  12 tn Aram “answered and said [to Daniel].”

[6:10]  13 tn Aram “knew.”

[6:10]  14 sn In later rabbinic thought this verse was sometimes cited as a proof text for the notion that one should pray only in a house with windows. See b. Berakhot 34b.

[6:10]  15 map For the location of Jerusalem see Map5 B1; Map6 F3; Map7 E2; Map8 F2; Map10 B3; JP1 F4; JP2 F4; JP3 F4; JP4 F4.

[6:10]  16 sn This is apparently the only specific mention in the OT of prayer being regularly offered three times a day. The practice was probably not unique to Daniel, however.

[6:10]  17 tc Read with several medieval Hebrew MSS and printed editions הֲוָה (havah) rather than the MT הוּא (hu’).

[6:10]  18 tn Aram “kneeling on his knees” (so NASB).

[6:26]  16 tn Aram “until the end.”

[7:7]  19 tn The Aramaic text has also “and behold.” So also in vv. 8, 13.

[7:7]  20 sn The fourth animal differs from the others in that it is nondescript. Apparently it was so fearsome that Daniel could find nothing with which to compare it. Attempts to identify this animal as an elephant or other known creature are conjectural.

[7:7]  21 tn The Aramaic word for “teeth” is dual rather than plural, suggesting two rows of teeth.

[3:15]  22 tn Aram “hand.” So also in v. 17.
