9:22 He spoke with me, instructing me as follows: ¹  “Daniel, I have now come to impart understanding to you.

Daniel 1:20

1:20 In every matter of wisdom and ²  insight the king asked them about, he found them to be ten times ³  better than any of the magicians and astrologers that were in his entire empire.

2:21 He changes times and seasons,

deposing some kings

and establishing others. ⁴ 

He gives wisdom to the wise;

he imparts knowledge to those with understanding; ⁵

An Angel Interprets Daniel’s Vision

8:15 While I, Daniel, was watching the vision, I sought to understand it. Now one who appeared to be a man was standing before me.

[9:22]  ¹ tn Heb “he instructed and spoke with me.” The expression is a verbal hendiadys.

[1:20]  ² tc The MT lacks the conjunction, reading the first word in the phrase as a construct (“wisdom of insight”). While this reading is not impossible, it seems better to follow Theodotion, the Syriac, the Vulgate, and the Sahidic Coptic, all of which have the conjunction.

[1:20]  ³ tn Heb “hands.”

[2:21]  ³ tn Aram “kings.”

[2:21]  ⁴ tn Aram “the knowers of understanding.”
