[1:30]  1 tn The Hebrew participle indicates imminent future action here, though some English versions treat it as a predictive future (“will go ahead of you,” NCV; cf. also TEV, CEV).

[1:30]  2 tn Heb “according to all which he did for you in Egypt before your eyes.”

[5:33]  3 tn Heb “the Lord your God.” The pronoun has been used in the translation for stylistic reasons to avoid redundancy.

[5:33]  4 tn Heb “may prolong your days”; NAB “may have long life”; TEV “will continue to live.”

[8:15]  5 tn Heb “flaming serpents”; KJV, NASB “fiery serpents”; NAB “saraph serpents.” This figure of speech (metonymy) probably describes the venomous and painful results of snakebite. The feeling from such an experience would be like a burning fire (שָׂרָף, saraf).

[8:15]  6 tn Heb “the one who brought out for you water.” In the Hebrew text this continues the preceding sentence, but the translation begins a new sentence here for stylistic reasons.

[10:11]  7 tn Heb “the Lord.” See note on “he” in 10:4.

[10:11]  8 tn Heb “before” (so KJV, ASV); NAB, NRSV “at the head of.”

[10:11]  9 tn After the imperative these subordinated jussive forms (with prefixed vav) indicate purpose or result.

[10:11]  10 tn Heb “fathers” (also in vv. 15, 22).

[13:13]  9 tn Heb “men, sons of Belial.” The Hebrew term בְּלִיַּעַל (bÿliyyaal) has the idea of worthlessness, without morals or scruples (HALOT 133-34 s.v.). Cf. NAB, NRSV “scoundrels”; TEV, CEV “worthless people”; NLT “worthless rabble.”

[13:13]  10 tc The LXX and Tg read “your” for the MT’s “their.”

[13:13]  11 tn The translation understands the relative clause as a statement by Moses, not as part of the quotation from the evildoers. See also v. 2.

[14:25]  11 tn Heb “bind the silver in your hand.”

[17:3]  13 tc The MT reads “and to the sun,” thus including the sun, the moon, and other heavenly spheres among the gods. However, Theodotion and Lucian read “or to the sun,” suggesting perhaps that the sun and the other heavenly bodies are not in the category of actual deities.

[17:3]  14 tn Heb “which I have not commanded you.” The words “to worship” are supplied in the translation for clarification.

[20:7]  15 tn Heb “Who [is] the man.”

[28:9]  17 tn Heb “the commandments of the Lord your God.” See note on “he” in the previous verse.

[28:9]  18 tn Heb “and walk in his ways” (so NAB, NASB, NIV, NRSV, NLT).

[28:14]  19 tn Heb “from all the words which I am commanding.”

[28:14]  20 tn Heb “in order to serve.”

[29:5]  21 tn The Hebrew text includes “on you.” This has not been included in the translation for stylistic reasons.

[29:5]  22 tn The Hebrew text includes “from on your feet.”

[29:26]  23 tn Heb “did not assign to them”; NASB, NRSV “had not allotted to them.”
