Deuteronomy 1:8

1:8 Look! I have already given the land to you. ¹  Go, occupy the territory that I, ²  the Lord, promised ³  to give to your ancestors ⁴  Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, and to their descendants.” ⁵ 

Deuteronomy 1:21

1:21 Look, he ⁶  has placed the land in front of you! ⁷  Go up, take possession of it, just as the Lord, the God of your ancestors, said to do. Do not be afraid or discouraged!”

Deuteronomy 5:27

5:27 You go near so that you can hear everything the Lord our God is saying and then you can tell us whatever he ⁸  says to you; then we will pay attention and do it.”

Deuteronomy 31:2

31:2 He said to them, “Today I am a hundred and twenty years old. I am no longer able to get about, ⁹  and the Lord has said to me, ‘You will not cross the Jordan.’

[1:8]  ¹ tn Heb “I have placed before you the land.”

[1:8]  ² tn Heb “the Lord.” Since the Lord is speaking, it is preferable for clarity to supply the first person pronoun in the translation.

[1:8]  ³ tn Heb “swore” (so NAB, NIV, NRSV, NLT). This refers to God’s promise, made by solemn oath, to give the patriarchs the land.

[1:8]  ⁴ tn Heb “fathers” (also in vv. 11, 21, 35).

[1:8]  ⁵ tn Heb “their seed after them.”

[1:21]  ⁶ tn Heb “the Lord your God.” The pronoun (“he”) has been used in the translation for stylistic reasons, to avoid repetition.

[1:21]  ⁷ tn Or “has given you the land” (cf. NAB, NIV, NRSV).

[5:27]  ¹¹ tn Heb “the Lord our God.” See note on “He” in 5:3.

[31:2]  ¹⁶ tn Or “am no longer able to lead you” (NIV, NLT); Heb “am no longer able to go out and come in.”
