14:24 When he ¹  blesses you, if the ²  place where he chooses to locate his name is distant,

17:15 you must select without fail ³  a king whom the Lord your God chooses. From among your fellow citizens ⁴  you must appoint a king – you may not designate a foreigner who is not one of your fellow Israelites. ⁵

[14:24]  ² tn The Hebrew text includes “way is so far from you that you are unable to carry it because the.” These words have not been included in the translation for stylistic reasons, because they are redundant.

[17:15]  ³ tn The Hebrew text uses the infinitive absolute for emphasis, indicated in the translation by the words “without fail.”

[17:15]  ⁴ tn Heb “your brothers,” but not referring to siblings (cf. NIV “your brother Israelites”; NLT “a fellow Israelite”). The same phrase also occurs in v. 20.
