Deuteronomy 15:3

15:3 You may exact payment from a foreigner, but whatever your fellow Israelite 1  owes you, you must remit.

Deuteronomy 17:15

Context
17:15 you must select without fail 2  a king whom the Lord your God chooses. From among your fellow citizens 3  you must appoint a king – you may not designate a foreigner who is not one of your fellow Israelites. 4

22:2 If the owner 5  does not live 6  near you or you do not know who the owner is, 7  then you must corral the animal 8  at your house and let it stay with you until the owner looks for it; then you must return it to him.

[15:3]  1 tn Heb “your brother.”

[17:15]  2 tn The Hebrew text uses the infinitive absolute for emphasis, indicated in the translation by the words “without fail.”

[17:15]  3 tn Heb “your brothers,” but not referring to siblings (cf. NIV “your brother Israelites”; NLT “a fellow Israelite”). The same phrase also occurs in v. 20.

[17:15]  4 tn Heb “your brothers.” See the preceding note on “fellow citizens.”

[22:2]  3 tn Heb “your brother” (also later in this verse).

[22:2]  4 tn Heb “is not.” The idea of “residing” is implied.

[22:2]  5 tn Heb “and you do not know him.”

[22:2]  6 tn Heb “it”; the referent (the ox or sheep mentioned in v. 1) has been specified in the translation for clarity.
