15:8 Instead, you must be sure to open your hand to him and generously lend ¹  him whatever he needs. ² 

Deuteronomy 17:17

17:17 Furthermore, he must not marry many ³  wives lest his affections turn aside, and he must not accumulate much silver and gold.

[15:8]  ¹ tn The Hebrew text uses the infinitive absolute before both verbs. The translation indicates the emphasis with the words “be sure to” and “generously,” respectively.

[15:8]  ² tn Heb “whatever his need that he needs for himself.” This redundant expression has been simplified in the translation for stylistic reasons.

[17:17]  ³ tn Heb “must not multiply” (cf. KJV, NASB); NLT “must not take many.”
