2:27 “Let me pass through your land; I will keep strictly to the roadway. ¹  I will not turn aside to the right or the left.

Deuteronomy 23:25

23:25 When you go into the ripe grain fields of your neighbor you may pluck off the kernels with your hand, ²  but you must not use a sickle on your neighbor’s ripe grain.

[2:27]  ¹ tn Heb “in the way in the way” (בַּדֶּרֶךְ בַּדֶּרֶךְ, baderekh baderekh). The repetition lays great stress on the idea of resolute determination to stick to the path. IBHS 116 §7.2.3c.
