Deuteronomy 21:13

21:13 discard the clothing she was wearing when captured, ¹  and stay ²  in your house, lamenting for her father and mother for a full month. After that you may have sexual relations ³  with her and become her husband and she your wife.

Deuteronomy 22:14

22:14 accusing her of impropriety ⁴  and defaming her reputation ⁵  by saying, “I married this woman but when I had sexual relations ⁶  with her I discovered she was not a virgin!”

[21:13]  ³ tn Heb “go unto,” a common Hebrew euphemism for sexual relations.

[22:14]  ⁴ tn Heb “deeds of things”; NRSV “makes up charges against her”; NIV “slanders her.”

[22:14]  ⁵ tn Heb “brings against her a bad name”; NIV “gives her a bad name.”

[22:14]  ⁶ tn Heb “drew near to her.” This is another Hebrew euphemism for having sexual relations.
