[21:21]  1 tn The Hebrew term בִּעַרְתָּה (biartah), here and elsewhere in such contexts (cf. Deut 13:5; 17:7, 12; 19:19; 21:9), suggests God’s anger which consumes like fire (thus בָעַר, baar, “to burn”). See H. Ringgren, TDOT 2:203-4.

[21:21]  2 tc Some LXX traditions read הַנִּשְׁאָרִים (hannisharim, “those who remain”) for the MT’s יִשְׂרָאֵל (yisrael, “Israel”), understandable in light of Deut 19:20. However, the more difficult reading found in the MT is more likely original.

[28:1]  3 tn The Hebrew text uses the infinitive absolute for emphasis, which the translation indicates with “indeed.”

[28:1]  4 tn Heb “commanding”; NAB “which I enjoin on you today” (likewise in v. 15).

[28:15]  5 tn Heb “do not hear the voice of.”

[28:15]  6 tn Heb “and overtake you” (so NIV, NRSV); NAB, NLT “and overwhelm you.”
