Deuteronomy 23:13

23:13 You must have a spade among your other equipment and when you relieve yourself 1  outside you must dig a hole with the spade 2  and then turn and cover your excrement. 3 

Deuteronomy 16:3

Context
16:3 You must not eat any yeast with it; for seven days you must eat bread made without yeast, symbolic of affliction, for you came out of Egypt hurriedly. You must do this so you will remember for the rest of your life the day you came out of the land of Egypt.

Deuteronomy 16:6

Context
16:6 but you must sacrifice it 4  in the evening in 5  the place where he 6  chooses to locate his name, at sunset, the time of day you came out of Egypt.

[23:13]  1 tn Heb “sit.” This expression is euphemistic.

[23:13]  2 tn Heb “with it”; the referent (the spade mentioned at the beginning of the verse) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[23:13]  3 tn Heb “what comes from you,” a euphemism.

[16:6]  4 tn Heb “the Passover.” The translation uses a pronoun to avoid redundancy in English.

[16:6]  5 tc The MT reading אֶל (’el, “unto”) before “the place” should, following Smr, Syriac, Targums, and Vulgate, be omitted in favor of ב (bet; בַּמָּקוֹם, bammaqom), “in the place.”

[16:6]  6 tn Heb “the Lord your God.” See note on “he” in 16:1.
