28:43 The foreigners ¹  who reside among you will become higher and higher over you and you will become lower and lower.

Deuteronomy 14:7

14:7 However, you may not eat the following animals among those that chew the cud or those that have divided hooves: the camel, the hare, and the rock badger. ²  (Although they chew the cud, they do not have divided hooves and are therefore ritually impure to you).

[28:43]  ¹ tn Heb “the foreigner.” This is a collective singular and has therefore been translated as plural; this includes the pronouns in the following verse, which are also singular in the Hebrew text.

[14:7]  ² tn The Hebrew term שָׁפָן (shafan) may refer to the “coney” (cf. KJV, NIV) or hyrax (“rock badger,” cf. NAB, NASB, NRSV, NLT).
