Deuteronomy 28:43

28:43 The foreigners ¹  who reside among you will become higher and higher over you and you will become lower and lower.

Deuteronomy 28:13

28:13 The Lord will make you the head and not the tail, and you will always end up at the top and not at the bottom, if you obey his ²  commandments which I am urging ³  you today to be careful to do.

[28:43]  ¹ tn Heb “the foreigner.” This is a collective singular and has therefore been translated as plural; this includes the pronouns in the following verse, which are also singular in the Hebrew text.

[28:13]  ² tn Heb “the Lord your God’s.” See note on “he” in 28:8.

[28:13]  ³ tn Heb “commanding” (so NRSV); NASB “which I charge you today.”
