Deuteronomy 28:60

28:60 He will infect you with all the diseases of Egypt ¹  that you dreaded, and they will persistently afflict you. ² 

Deuteronomy 9:19

9:19 For I was terrified at the Lord’s intense anger ³  that threatened to destroy you. But he ⁴  listened to me this time as well.

[28:60]  ¹ sn These are the plagues the Lord inflicted on the Egyptians prior to the exodus which, though they did not fall upon the Israelites, must have caused great terror (cf. Exod 15:26).

[28:60]  ² tn Heb “will cling to you” (so NIV); NLT “will claim you.”

[9:19]  ³ tn Heb “the anger and the wrath.” Although many English versions translate as two terms, this construction is a hendiadys which serves to intensify the emotion (cf. NAB, TEV “fierce anger”).
