Deuteronomy 28:66

[28:66]  1 tn Heb “you will not be confident in your life.” The phrase “from one day to the next” is implied by the following verse.

[30:6]  2 tn Heb “circumcise” (so KJV, NAB, NIV, NRSV); TEV “will give you and your descendents obedient hearts.” See note on the word “cleanse” in Deut 10:16.

[30:6]  3 tn Heb “seed” (so KJV, ASV).

[30:6]  4 tn Heb “the Lord your God.” See note on the second occurrence of the word “he” in v. 3.

[6:2]  4 tn Here the terms are not the usual חֻקִּים (khuqqim) and מִשְׁפָּטִים (mishpatim; as in v. 1) but חֻקֹּת (khuqqot, “statutes”) and מִצְוֹת (mitsot, “commandments”). It is clear that these terms are used interchangeably and that their technical precision ought not be overly stressed.

[6:2]  5 tn Heb “commanding.” For stylistic reasons, to avoid redundancy, “giving” has been used in the translation.

[30:20]  5 tn The words “I also call on you” are supplied in the translation for stylistic reasons. In the Hebrew text vv. 19-20 are one long sentence, which the translation divides into two.

[30:20]  6 tn Heb “he is your life and the length of your days to live.”
