Blessing on Joseph

33:13 Of Joseph he said:

May the Lord bless his land

with the harvest produced by the sky, ¹  by the dew,

and by the depths crouching beneath;

Deuteronomy 22:6

22:6 If you happen to notice a bird’s nest along the road, whether in a tree or on the ground, and there are chicks or eggs with the mother bird sitting on them, ²  you must not take the mother from the young. ³ 

Deuteronomy 29:20

29:20 The Lord will be unwilling to forgive him, and his intense anger ⁴  will rage ⁵  against that man; all the curses ⁶  written in this scroll will fall upon him ⁷  and the Lord will obliterate his name from memory. ⁸ 

[33:13]  ¹ tn Heb “from the harvest of the heavens.” The referent appears to be good crops produced by the rain that falls from the sky.

[22:6]  ² tn Heb “and the mother sitting upon the chicks or the eggs.”

[22:6]  ³ tn Heb “sons,” used here in a generic sense for offspring.

[29:20]  ³ tn Heb “the wrath of the Lord and his zeal.” The expression is a hendiadys, a figure in which the second noun becomes adjectival to the first.

[29:20]  ⁴ tn Heb “smoke,” or “smolder.”

[29:20]  ⁵ tn Heb “the entire oath.”

[29:20]  ⁶ tn Or “will lie in wait against him.”

[29:20]  ⁷ tn Heb “blot out his name from under the sky.”
