4:7 In fact, what other great nation has a god so near to them like the Lord our God whenever we call on him?

Deuteronomy 9:15

9:15 So I turned and went down the mountain while it ¹  was blazing with fire; the two tablets of the covenant were in my hands.

Deuteronomy 20:18

20:18 so that they cannot teach you all the abhorrent ways they worship ²  their gods, causing you to sin against the Lord your God.

[9:15]  ¹ tn Heb “the mountain.” The translation uses a pronoun for stylistic reasons to avoid redundancy.

[20:18]  ¹ tn Heb “to do according to all their abominations which they do for their gods.”
