[4:9]  1 tn Heb “watch yourself and watch your soul carefully.”

[4:15]  2 tn Heb “give great care to your souls.”

[4:16]  3 tn The words “I say this” are supplied in the translation for stylistic reasons. In the Hebrew text v. 16 is subordinated to “Be careful” in v. 15, but this makes for an unduly long sentence in English.

[23:11]  4 tn Heb “Watch carefully yourselves so as to love the Lord your God.”

[24:4]  5 tn Grk “answering, Jesus said to them.” This is somewhat redundant and has been simplified in the translation.

[24:4]  6 tn Or “Be on guard.”

[12:15]  7 tn Here δέ (de) has been translated as “then” to indicate the implied sequence of events within the narrative.

[12:15]  8 tn See L&N 13.154 for this use of the middle voice of φυλάσσω (fulassw) in this verse.

[12:15]  9 tn Or “avarice,” “covetousness.” Note the warning covers more than money and gets at the root attitude – the strong desire to acquire more and more possessions and experiences.

[21:8]  10 tn Here δέ (de) has not been translated.

[21:8]  11 tn Or “Be on guard.”

[21:8]  12 tn That is, “I am the Messiah.”

[3:12]  13 tn Or “take care.”

[3:12]  14 tn Grk “brothers.” See note on the phrase “brothers and sisters” in 2:11.

[3:12]  15 tn Grk “that there not be in any of you.”

[3:12]  16 tn Or “deserts,” “rebels against.”

[3:12]  17 tn Grk “in forsaking the living God.”
