Context9:12 And he said to me, “Get up, go down at once from here because your people whom you brought out of Egypt have sinned! They have quickly turned from the way I commanded them and have made for themselves a cast metal image.” 1
Deuteronomy 26:13-14
Context26:13 Then you shall say before the Lord your God, “I have removed the sacred offering 2 from my house and given it to the Levites, the resident foreigners, the orphans, and the widows just as you have commanded me. 3 I have not violated or forgotten your commandments. 26:14 I have not eaten anything when I was in mourning, or removed any of it while ceremonially unclean, or offered any of it to the dead; 4 I have obeyed you 5 and have done everything you have commanded me.
Deuteronomy 31:29
Context31:29 For I know that after I die you will totally 6 corrupt yourselves and turn away from the path I have commanded you to walk. Disaster will confront you in the days to come because you will act wickedly 7 before the Lord, inciting him to anger because of your actions.” 8


[9:12] 1 tc Heb “a casting.” The MT reads מַסֵּכָה (massekhah, “a cast thing”) but some
[26:13] 2 tn Heb “the sacred thing.” The term הַקֹּדֶשׁ (haqqodesh) likely refers to an offering normally set apart for the
[26:13] 3 tn Heb “according to all your commandment that you commanded me.” This has been simplified in the translation for stylistic reasons.
[26:14] 3 sn These practices suggest overtones of pagan ritual, all of which the confessor denies having undertaken. In Canaan they were connected with fertility practices associated with harvest time. See E. H. Merrill, Deuteronomy (NAC), 335-36.
