Esther 5:10

5:10 But Haman restrained himself and went on to his home.

He then sent for his friends to join him, ¹  along with his wife Zeresh.

Esther 7:10

7:10 So they hanged Haman on the very gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. The king’s rage then abated.

Esther 8:4

8:4 When the king extended to Esther the gold scepter, she ²  arose and stood before the king.

Esther 9:23

9:23 So the Jews committed themselves to continue what they had begun to do and to what Mordecai had written to them.

[5:10]  ¹ tn Heb “sent and brought.” The expression is probably a hendiadys (a figure of speech in which a single idea is expressed through two words or phrases), in which case the two verbs could be translated simply as “summoned” (so NAB) or “sent for” (NASB).

[8:4]  ² tn Heb “Esther.” The pronoun (“she”) was used in the translation for stylistic reasons. A repetition of the proper name is redundant here in terms of contemporary English style.
