  O who like Thee, so calm, so bright, Thou Son of Man, Thou Light of Light? O who like Thee did ever go So patient through a world of woe! O who like Thee so humbly bore The scorn, the scoffs of men before; So meek, forgiving, Godlike, high So glorious in humility! And all Thy life’s unchanging years, A man of sorrows and of tears, The cross, where all our sins were laid, Upon Thy bending shoulders weighed.   O God, beneath Thy guiding hand Our exiled fathers crossed the sea; And when they trod the wintry strand, With prayer and psalm they worshipped Thee. Thou heardest, well pleased, the song, the prayer: Thy blessing came; and still its power Shall onward, through all ages, bear The memory of that holy hour. Laws, freedom, truth and faith in God Came with those exiles o’er the waves; And, where their pilgrim feet have trod, The God they trusted guards their graves. And here Thy Name, O God of love, Their children’s children still adore, Till these eternal hills remove, And spring adorns the earth no more.

  To Thee, O God, whose guiding hand Our fathers led across the sea, And brought them to this barren shore, Where they might freely worship Thee— To Thee, O God, whose arm sustained Their footsteps in this desert land, Where sickness lurked, and death assailed And foes beset on every hand— To Thee, O God, we lift our eyes, To Thee our grateful voices raise, And, kneeling at Thy gracious throne, Devoutly join in hymns of praise. • [Eze 16:60] Blessèd Savior, Who Hast Taught Me

  Blessèd Savior, who hast taught me I should live to Thee alone, All these years Thy hand hath brought me Since I first was made Thine own. At the font my vows were spoken By my parents in the Lord; That my vows shall be unbroken At the altar I record. I would trust in Thy protecting Wholly rest upon Thine arm, Follow wholly Thy directing, O my only Guard from harm. Meet me now with Thy salvation In Thy Church’s ordered way; Let me feel Thy confirmation In Thy truth and fear today, So that might and firmness gaining, Hope in danger, joy in grief, Now and evermore remaining In the one and true belief, Resting in the Savior’s merit, Strengthened with the Spirit’s strength With Thy saints I may inherit All my Father’s joy at length.
