• [Psa 68:18] Make Me A Captive, Lord

  Make me a captive, Lord, and then I shall be free. Force me to render up my sword, and I shall conqueror be. I sink in life’s alarms when by myself I stand; Imprison me within Thine arms, and strong shall be my hand. My heart is weak and poor until it master find; It has no spring of action sure, it varies with the wind. It cannot freely move till Thou has wrought its chain; Enslave it with Thy matchless love, and deathless it shall reign. My power is faint and low till I have learned to serve; It lacks the needed fire to glow, it lacks the breeze to nerve. It cannot drive the world until itself be driven; Its flag can only be unfurled when Thou shalt breathe from heaven. My will is not my own till Thou hast made it Thine; If it would reach a monarch’s throne, it must its crown resign. It only stands unbent amid the clashing strife, When on Thy bosom it has leant, and found in Thee its life.

  Most glorious Lord of life, that on this day Didst make Thy triumph over death and sin, And having harrowed hell, didst bring away Captivity thence captive, us to win.   O Christ, Thou hast ascended, Triumphantly on high! By cherub guards attended And armies of the sky: Let earth tell forth the story— Our very flesh and bone, Immanuel, in glory, Ascends His Father’s throne. Heaven’s gates unfold above Thee: But canst Thou, Lord, forget The little band who love Thee And gaze from Olivet? Nay, on Thy breast engraven Thou bearest every name, Our Priest in earth and Heaven Eternally the same.   Our Lord is risen from the dead! Our Jesus is gone up on high! The powers of hell are captive led, Dragged to the portals of the sky. There His triumphal chariot waits, And angels chant the solemn lay: Lift up your heads, you heavenly gates; You everlasting doors, give way! Loose all your bars of massy light, And wide unfold the ethereal scene; He claims these mansions as His right Receive the King of glory in! Who is this King of glory? Who? The Lord that all our foes overcame; The world, sin, death, and hell overthrew; And Jesus is the conqueror’s Name. Lo! • [Psa 68:18] See, The Conqueror Mounts In Triumph

  See, the Conqueror mounts in triumph; see the King in royal state, Riding on the clouds, His chariot, to His heavenly palace gate. Hark! the choirs of angel voices joyful alleluias sing, And the portals high are lifted to receive their heavenly King. Who is this that comes in glory, with the trump of jubilee? Lord of battles, God of armies, He has gained the victory. He Who on the cross did suffer, He Who from the grave arose, He has vanquished sin and Satan, He by death has spoiled His foes. While He lifts His hands in blessing, He is parted from His friends While their eager eyes behold Him, He upon the clouds ascends; He Who walked with God and pleased Him, preaching truth and doom to come, He, our Enoch, is translated to His everlasting home. Now our heavenly Aaron enters, with His blood, within the veil; Joshua now is come to Canaan, and the kings before Him quail; Now He plants the tribes of Israel in their promised resting place; Now our great Elijah offers double portion of His grace. He has raised our human nature in the clouds to God’s right hand; There we sit in heavenly places, there with Him in glory stand: Jesus reigns, adored by angels; man with God is on the throne; Mighty Lord, in Thine ascension we by faith behold our own. Holy Ghost, llluminator, shed Thy beams upon our eyes, Help us to look up with Stephen, and to see beyond the skies, Where the Son of Man in glory standing is at God’s right hand, Beckoning on His martyr army, succoring His faithful band. See Him, who is gone before us, heavenly mansions to prepare, See Him, who is ever pleading for us with prevailing prayer, See Him, who with sound of trumpet, and with His angelic train, Summoning the world to judgment, on the clouds will come again. Raise us up from earth to Heaven, give us wings of faith and love, Gales of holy aspirations wafting us to realms above; That, with hearts and minds uplifted, we with Christ our Lord may dwell, Where He sits enthroned in glory in His heavenly citadel. So at last, when He appeareth, we from out our graves may spring, With our youth renewed like eagles, flocking round our heavenly King. Caught up on the clouds of Heaven, and may meet Him in the air, Rise to realms where He is reigning, and may reign for ever there.   O Thou Who dwell’st on high, ’Mid burning seraphs bright, Pavilioned in the azure sky, Robed with celestial light: Permit us to draw near, And worship and adore; Redeemed from sin and guilt and fear, Thy blessing we implore.   Alleluia! sing to Jesus! His the scepter, His the throne. Alleluia! His the triumph, His the victory alone. Hark! the songs of peaceful Zion thunder like a mighty flood. Jesus out of every nation has redeemed us by His blood. Alleluia! not as orphans are we left in sorrow now; Alleluia! He is near us, faith believes, nor questions how; Though the cloud from sight received Him when the forty days were o’er Shall our hearts forget His promise, “I am with you evermore”?
