Exodus 16:32

Context

16:32 Moses said, “This is what 1  the Lord has commanded: ‘Fill an omer with it to be kept 2  for generations to come, 3  so that they may see 4  the food I fed you in the desert when I brought you out from the land of Egypt.’”

Exodus 34:10

Context

34:10 He said, “See, I am going to make 5  a covenant before all your people. I will do wonders such as have not been done 6  in all the earth, nor in any nation. All the people among whom you live will see the work of the Lord, for it is a fearful thing that I am doing with you. 7

[16:32]  1 tn Heb “This is the thing that.”

[16:32]  2 tn Heb “for keeping.”

[16:32]  3 tn Heb “according to your generations” (see Exod 12:14).

[16:32]  4 tn In this construction after the particle expressing purpose or result, the imperfect tense has the nuance of final imperfect, equal to a subjunctive in the classical languages.

[34:10]  5 tn Here again is a use of the futur instans participle; the deictic particle plus the pronoun precedes the participle, showing what is about to happen.

[34:10]  6 tn The verb here is בָּרָא (bara’, “to create”). The choice of this verb is to stress that these wonders would be supernaturally performed, for the verb is used only with God as the subject.

[34:10]  7 sn The idea is that God will be doing awesome things in dealing with them, i.e., to fulfill his program.
