Exodus 19:23
Context19:23 Moses said to the Lord, “The people are not able to come up to Mount Sinai, because you solemnly warned us, 1 ‘Set boundaries for the mountain and set it apart.’” 2
Exodus 21:29
Context21:29 But if the ox had the habit of goring, and its owner was warned, 3 and he did not take the necessary precautions, 4 and then it killed a man or a woman, the ox must be stoned and the man must be put to death.

[19:23] 1 tn The construction is emphatic: “because you – you solemnly warned us.” Moses’ response to God is to ask how they would break through when God had already charged them not to. God knew them better than Moses did.
[19:23] 2 tn Heb “sanctify it.”
[21:29] 3 tn The Hophal perfect has the idea of “attested, testified against.”
[21:29] 4 tn Heb “he was not keeping it” or perhaps guarding or watching it (referring to the ox).
