[37:3]  1 tn “that he put” has been supplied.

[37:3]  2 tn This is taken as a circumstantial clause; the clause begins with the conjunction vav.

[37:27]  3 tn Heb “and he made.”

[37:27]  4 sn Since it was a small altar, it needed only two rings, one on either side, in order to be carried. The second mention of their location clarifies that they should be on the sides, the right and the left, as one approached the altar.

[37:27]  5 tn Heb “for houses.”

[39:16]  5 tn Here “upper” has been supplied.

[23:31]  7 tn The form is a perfect tense with vav consecutive.

[23:31]  8 tn In the Hebrew Bible “the River” usually refers to the Euphrates (cf. NASB, NCV, NRSV, TEV, CEV, NLT). There is some thought that it refers to a river Nahr el Kebir between Lebanon and Syria. See further W. C. Kaiser, Jr., “Exodus,” EBC 2:447; and G. W. Buchanan, The Consequences of the Covenant (NovTSup), 91-100.

[30:4]  9 sn Since it was a small altar, it needed only two rings, one on either side, in order to be carried. The second clause clarifies that the rings should be on the sides, the right and the left, as you approach the altar.

[30:4]  10 tn Heb “And it”; this refers to the rings collectively in their placement on the box, and so the word “rings” has been used to clarify the referent for the modern reader.

[30:4]  11 tn Heb “for houses.”
