Ezekiel 3:18

Ezekiel 3:20

Context

3:20 “When a righteous person turns from his righteousness and commits iniquity, and I set an obstacle 6  before him, he will die. If you have not warned him, he will die for his sin. The righteous deeds he performed will not be considered, but I will hold you accountable for his death.

Ezekiel 12:12

12:12 “The prince 7  who is among them will raise his belongings 8  onto his shoulder in darkness, and will go out. He 9  will dig a hole in the wall to leave through. He will cover his face so that he cannot see the land with his eyes.

Ezekiel 31:18

31:18 Which of the trees of Eden was like you in majesty and loftiness? You will be brought down with the trees of Eden to the lower parts of the earth; you will lie among the uncircumcised, with those killed by the sword! This is what will happen to Pharaoh and all his hordes, declares the sovereign Lord.’”

Ezekiel 33:6

Context
33:6 But suppose the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet to warn the people. Then the sword comes and takes one of their lives. He is swept away for his iniquity, 10  but I will hold the watchman accountable for that person’s death.’ 11

Ezekiel 38:17

The Lord’s Portion of the Land

45:1 “‘When you allot the land as an inheritance, you will offer an allotment 14  to the Lord, a holy portion from the land; the length will be eight and a quarter miles 15  and the width three and one-third miles. 16  This entire area will be holy. 17

Ezekiel 45:17

[1:28]  1 sn Reference to the glowing substance and the brilliant light and storm phenomena in vv. 27-28a echoes in reverse order the occurrence of these phenomena in v. 4.

[1:28]  2 tn The vision closes with the repetition of the verb “I saw” from the beginning of the vision in 1:4.

[3:18]  3 sn Even though the infinitive absolute is used to emphasize the warning, the warning is still implicitly conditional, as the following context makes clear.

[3:18]  4 tn Or “in his punishment.” The phrase “in/for [a person’s] iniquity” occurs fourteen times in Ezekiel: here and v. 19; 4:17; 7:13, 16; 18: 17, 18, 19, 20; 24:23; 33:6, 8, 9; 39:23. The Hebrew word for “iniquity” may also mean the “punishment for iniquity.”

[3:18]  5 tn Heb “his blood I will seek from your hand.” The expression “seek blood from the hand” is equivalent to requiring the death penalty (2 Sam 4:11-12).

[3:20]  5 tn Or “stumbling block.” The Hebrew term refers to an obstacle in the road in Lev 19:14.

[12:12]  7 sn The prince is a reference to Zedekiah.

[12:12]  8 tn The words “his belongings” are not in the Hebrew text but are implied.

[12:12]  9 tc The MT reads “they”; the LXX and Syriac read “he.”

[33:6]  9 tn Or “in his punishment.” The phrase “in/for [a person’s] iniquity/punishment” occurs fourteen times in Ezekiel: here and in vv. 8 and 9; 3:18, 19; 4:17; 7:13, 16; 18: 17, 18, 19, 20; 24:23; 39:23. The Hebrew word for “iniquity” may also mean the “punishment” for iniquity or “guilt” of iniquity.

[33:6]  10 tn Heb “his blood from the hand of the watchman I will seek.”

[38:17]  11 tn Heb “by the hand of my servants.”

[38:17]  12 tn The Hebrew text adds “years” here, but this is probably a scribal gloss on the preceding phrase. See L. C. Allen, Ezekiel (WBC), 2:201.

[45:1]  13 tn Heb “a contribution.”

[45:1]  14 tn Heb “twenty-five thousand cubits” (i.e., 13.125 kilometers). The measuring units here are the Hebrew “long” cubit, consisting of a cubit (about 18 inches or 45 cm) and a handbreadth (about 3 inches or 7.5 cm), for a total of 21 inches (52.5 cm). Because modern readers are not familiar with the cubit as a unit of measurement, and due to the additional complication of the “long” cubit as opposed to the regular cubit, all measurements have been converted to American standard miles (one mile = 5,280 feet), with the Hebrew measurements and the metric equivalents given in the notes.

[45:1]  15 tc The LXX reads “twenty thousand cubits.”

[45:1]  16 tn Heb “holy it is in all its territory round about.”
