Ezekiel 16:14-15

16:14 Your fame ¹  spread among the nations because of your beauty; your beauty was perfect because of the splendor which I bestowed on you, declares the sovereign Lord. ² 

16:15 “‘But you trusted in your beauty and capitalized on your fame by becoming a prostitute. You offered your sexual favors to every man who passed by so that your beauty ³  became his.

Ezekiel 20:9

20:9 I acted for the sake of my reputation, ⁴  so that I would not be profaned before the nations among whom they lived, ⁵  before whom I revealed myself by bringing them out of the land of Egypt. ⁶ 

Ezekiel 20:22

20:22 But I refrained from doing so, ⁷  and acted instead for the sake of my reputation, so that I would not be profaned before the nations in whose sight I had brought them out.

Ezekiel 20:29

Ezekiel 20:44

Ezekiel 34:29

[16:15]  ³ tn Heb “it” (so KJV, ASV); the referent (the beauty in which the prostitute trusted, see the beginning of the verse) has been specified in the translation for clarity.

[20:9]  ⁵ tn Heb “for the sake of my name.”

[20:9]  ⁷ tn Heb “to whom I made myself known before their eyes to bring them out from the land of Egypt.” The translation understands the infinitive construct (“to bring them out”) as indicating manner. God’s deliverance of his people from Egypt was an act of self-revelation in that it displayed his power and his commitment to his promises.

[20:22]  ⁷ tn Heb “drew my hand back.” This idiom also occurs in Lam 2:8 and Ps 74:11.

[20:29]  ⁹ tn The Hebrew word (“Bamah”) means “high place.”
