• [Eze 18:31] O Turn Ye, For Why Will Ye Die

  O turn ye, O turn ye, for why will ye die, When God, in great mercy, is coming so nigh? Now Jesus invites you, the Spirit says Come! And angels are waiting to welcome you home. How vain the delusion, that while you delay Your hearts may grow better, your chains melt away! Come guilty, come wretched, come just as you are; All helpless and dying, to Jesus repair. The contrite in heart he will freely receive, O why will you not the glad message believe? If sin be your burden, why will you not come? ’Tis you He makes welcome, He bids you come home.

  Sinners, turn: why will you die? God, your Maker, asks you why. God, who did your being give, Gave Himself, that you might live; He the fatal cause demands, Asks the work of His own hands. Why, you thankless creatures, why, Will you cross His love, and die? Sinners, turn: why will you die? God, your Savior, asks you why. God, who did your souls retrieve, Died Himself, that you might live. Will you let Him die in vain? Crucify your Lord again? Why, you ransomed sinners, why, Will you slight His grace and die? Sinners, turn: why will you die? God, the Spirit, asks you why; He, who all your lives hath strove, Wooed you to embrace His love. Will you not His grace receive? Will you still refuse to live? Can ye doubt, if God is love, If to all His mercies move? Will ye not His Word receive? Will ye not His oath believe? See, the suffering God appears! Jesus weeps! Believe His tears! Mingled with His blood they cry, Why will you resolve to die? Dead, already dead within, Spiritually dead in sin, Dead to God while here you breathe, Pant ye after second death? Will you still in sin remain, Greedy of eternal pain? O you dying sinners, why, Why will you forever die? What could your Redeemer do More than He hath done for you? To procure your peace with God, Could He more than shed His blood? After all His waste of love, All His drawings from above, Why will you your Lord deny? Why will you resolve to die? Turn, He cries, ye sinners, turn; By His life your God hath sworn, He would have you turn and live, He would all the world receive. If your death were His delight, Would he you to life invite? Would he ask, obtest, and cry, Why will you resolve to die? Sinners, turn, while God is near: Dare not think Him insincere: Now, even now, your Savior stands, All day long He spreads His hands, Cries, you will not happy be! No, you will not come to Me! Me, who life to none deny: Why will you resolve to die? Can you doubt if God is love? If to all His vowels move? Will you not His Word receive? Will you not His oath believe?   From out the cloud of amber light, Borne on the whirlwind from the north, Four living creatures winged and bright Before the prophet’s eyes came forth. The voice of God was in the four Beneath that awful crystal mist, And every wondrous form they wore Foreshadowed an evangelist. The lion-faced, he told abroad The strength of love, the strength of faith; He showed th’almighty Son of God, The Man divine Who won by death. O Lion of the royal tribe, Strong Son of God, and strong to save, All power and honor we ascribe To Thee Who only makest brave. For strength to love, for will to speak, For fiery crowns by martyrs won, For suffering patience, strong and meek, We praise Thee, Lord, and Thee alone.

  Grant me a valley, far from the nations, Where I may dwell all my days. There peace attends me, ’mid tribulations, If I but walk in Your ways. While furies rage and tremble the ground, While fear and conflicts surround. In that calm valley, my generations Stand giving thanks, singing praise. Where Your hand leads me, there shall I follow, Trusting Your Word as my guide. When others fail me, their pledge found hollow Your grace and love fast abide. Wilderness path or broad smooth highway I’ll yield to You, Lord, the way. The present I see. Not so, tomorrow, Save that You walk by my side. God the creator, who is and shall be, Present in all time and place. Be my defender, never forsake me. Never from me, hide your face. When cold descends and gathers the dark, When night stills even the lark. Be my protector, fold your hand o’er me. I’ll shelter in its embrace.

  Come, O Thou all-victorious Lord! Thy power to us make known; Strike with the hammer of Thy Word, And break these hearts of stone. O that we all might now begin Our foolishness to mourn; And turn at once from every sin, And to our Savior turn! Give us ourselves and Thee to know, In this our gracious day; Repentance unto life bestow, And take our sins away.
