[28:36]  1 tc The LXX reads the plural “kings.”

[28:49]  2 tn Heb “from the end of the earth.”

[28:49]  3 tn Some translations understand this to mean “like an eagle swoops down” (e.g., NAB, NASB, NIV, NRSV, NLT), comparing the swift attack of an eagle to the attack of the Israelites’ enemies.

[28:2]  4 tn Heb “come upon you and overtake you” (so NASB, NRSV); NIV “come upon you and accompany you.”

[24:4]  5 tn Heb “to return to take her to be his wife.”

[24:4]  6 sn The issue here is not divorce and its grounds per se but prohibition of remarriage to a mate whom one has previously divorced.

[24:4]  7 tn Heb “cause the land to sin” (so KJV, ASV).

[9:36]  8 tn The expression “to enjoy” is not included in the Hebrew text, but has been supplied in the translation for clarity.

[9:37]  9 tn Heb “according to their desire.”

[106:41]  10 tn Heb “gave them into the hand of.”

[5:15]  11 tn Heb “oracle of the Lord.”

[5:15]  12 tn Heb “Behold!”

[5:15]  13 tn Heb “house of Israel.”

[5:16]  14 tn Heb “All of them are mighty warriors.”

[5:16]  15 tn Heb “his quiver [is] an open grave.” The order of the lines has been reversed to make the transition from “nation” to “their arrows” easier.

[5:17]  16 tn Heb “eat up.”

[5:17]  17 tn Or “eat up your grapes and figs”; Heb “eat up your vines and your fig trees.”

[5:17]  18 tn Heb “They will beat down with the sword.” The term “sword” is a figure of speech (synecdoche) for military weapons in general. Siege ramps, not swords, beat down city walls; swords kill people, not city walls.
