[3:19]  1 tn Verses 17-19 are repeated in Ezek 33:7-9.

[3:21]  2 tn Heb “the righteous man.”

[14:14]  3 sn Traditionally this has been understood as a reference to the biblical Daniel, though he was still quite young when Ezekiel prophesied. One wonders if he had developed a reputation as an intercessor by this point. For this reason some prefer to see a reference to a ruler named Danel, known in Canaanite legend for his justice and wisdom. In this case all three of the individuals named would be non-Israelites, however the Ugaritic Danel is not known to have qualities of faith in the Lord that would place him in the company of the other men. See D. I. Block, Ezekiel (NICOT), 1:447-50.

[17:17]  4 tn Heb “deal with” or “work with.”

[22:25]  5 tn Heb “a conspiracy of her prophets is in her midst.” The LXX reads “whose princes” rather than “a conspiracy of prophets.” The prophets are mentioned later in the paragraph (v. 28). If one follows the LXX in verse 25, then five distinct groups are mentioned in vv. 25-29: princes, priests, officials, prophets, and the people of the land. For a defense of the Septuagintal reading, see L. C. Allen, Ezekiel (WBC), 2:32, and D. I. Block, Ezekiel (NICOT), 1:720, n. 4.

[22:25]  6 tn Heb “her widows they have multiplied.” The statement alludes to their murderous acts.

[23:17]  6 tn Heb “The sons of Babel came to her on a bed of love.”

[23:17]  7 tn Heb “her soul.”

[23:28]  7 tn The word הִנֵּה (hinneh, traditionally “behold”) indicates becoming aware of something and has been translated here as a verb.

[23:28]  8 tn Heb “I am giving you into the hand of.”

[25:6]  8 tn Heb “with all your scorn in (the) soul.”

[25:15]  9 sn The Philistines inhabited the coastal plain by the Mediterranean Sea, west of Judah.

[25:15]  10 tn Heb “have acted with vengeance and taken vengeance with vengeance.” The repetition emphasizes the degree of vengeance which they exhibited, presumably toward Judah.

[25:15]  11 tn Heb “with scorn in (the) soul.”

[25:15]  12 tn The object is not specified in the Hebrew text, but has been clarified as “Judah” in the translation.

[25:15]  13 tn Heb “to destroy (with) perpetual hostility.” Joel 3:4-8 also speaks of the Philistines taking advantage of the fall of Judah.

[33:5]  10 tn Heb “his blood will be on him.”

[33:9]  11 tn Heb “from his way to turn from it.”

[33:9]  12 tn Heb “and he does not turn from his way.”
