Ezekiel 5:12

5:12 A third of your people will die of plague or be overcome by the famine within you. ¹  A third of your people will fall by the sword surrounding you, ²  and a third I will scatter to the winds. I will unleash a sword behind them.

Ezekiel 28:7

28:7 I am about to bring foreigners ³  against you, the most terrifying of nations.

They will draw their swords against the grandeur made by your wisdom, ⁴ 

and they will defile your splendor.

Ezekiel 30:11

30:11 He and his people with him,

the most terrifying of the nations, ⁵ 

will be brought there to destroy the land.

They will draw their swords against Egypt,

and fill the land with corpses.

[5:12]  ¹ sn The judgment of plague and famine comes from the covenant curse (Lev 26:25-26). As in v. 10, the city of Jerusalem is figuratively addressed here.

[5:12]  ² sn Judgment by plague, famine, and sword occurs in Jer 21:9; 27:13; Ezek 6:11, 12; 7:15.

[28:7]  ³ sn This is probably a reference to the Babylonians.

[28:7]  ⁴ tn Heb “they will draw their swords against the beauty of your wisdom.”

[30:11]  ⁵ tn The Babylonians were known for their cruelty (2 Kgs 25:7).
